According to Rosstat, the Russian Federation, the number of unemployed in our country by December 2009 amounted to 6.173 million, an increase over the month by 42,000. The unemployment rate in Russia in December rose to 8.2% from 8.1% in November. At the same time the number of economically active population aged 15-72 years in December 2009 amounted to 75.4 million people. Recall that the maximum number of unemployed to 7.1 million people were registered in February 2009. The unemployment rate averaged over the past year was 8.4% instead of 6.3% in 2008.
